MINUTES OF THE HSMC GENERAL  MEETING HELD ON JANUARY 10, 2008

The meeting was called to order by President Paula Hutchinson at 7:10 PM.

Introductions were made.

MINUTES FROM THE PREVIOUS MEETING:

Paula asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes of the December 13, 2007 meeting and there were none. A motion was made by Janet Rippelmeyer and seconded by Rachael Bahre to approve the minutes of the December 13, 2007 meeting. Motion carried.

TREASURER’S REPORT:

Kim presented and reviewed the treasurer’s report. Kim noted that starting in February our rent goes up from $1.00/month to $250/month.
Motion was made by Sue Phillips and seconded by Bev Hirstein to approve the treasurer’s report as presented.
Motion carried.

OLD BUSINESS:

Schnucks Cards Status – Paula announced that Diane Weber will be taking over the Schnucks Card fundraising effort.

Pledge a Plaque Campaign Status - Diane stated that we need to review a better way to secure plaques on the cat cages. Some are starting to fall off. Diane is also looking into the wall plaque. The wall plaque may look similar to the current cage plaque, however, different colors may be used to differentiate between various donation levels. Diane also mentioned that the “Cash for Critters” campaign has been temporarily suspended. She still will be collecting expired printer cartridges for when the program restarts.

Membership Drive – Cari reported that we have three new members and that we now have a total of 58 members.

Plastic Donation Boxes – The boxes brought in approximately $350.00 last month. Members were again reminded to check and empty boxes on a regular basis.

Calendar Status – There are approximately 30 calendars left. Some of the remaining calendars will be used to fill baskets for the Causes for Paws Dinner.

Cookbook Status – Cookbooks are not in yet, but are expected to be received sometime this month. The price will be $15.00 per cookbook, however if you buy 3 cookbooks the fourth one will only cost $7.50.

Jingle Bell Dog Walk Results – Despite the weather and the date change, the walk was a success. We made between a $700 to $800 profit.

Pictures with Santa at PetsMart Results – 130 pictures were taken at PetsMart. Fifty-nine were taken on Saturday and seventy-one on Sunday for a profit of $650.00.

Gift Card Fund Raiser - The gift card program was a success. We made $280 from the program on our first order. This could become a monthly program if enough orders are received.

UPCOMING EVENTS – VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:

·        Adoption Event at PetsMart on January 26 from 11AM-3PM. As a reminder the shelter is also open for adoption opportunities on this day.

·        Adoption Event at the Waterloo Feed Store on February 2 from 9AM to 2PM

·        Stars to the Rescue Benefit at the Family Arena on January 20th. We have 100 tickets to sell at $25.00 per ticket. We receive 100% of the ticket sales. Which means….if we sell all the tickets we will make $2500.00!! So far, we have only sold 24.  L

·        A Cause for Paws on March 28, 2008. Please note this is a date change! Mark you calendar now. We should not have a conflict this year as the ICS action is on February 20th, and the PTA dinner is on April 19th. We are currently accepting donations for this event.

OTHER BUSINESS:

  • Paula reported that all of the dogs at the Vet Tech School have been adopted. The cat’s adoption status is still questionable. In January, we will take a couple more dogs to the school. Current plans are to take Costello, Jenny and Chuck.

·        Sue Phillips handed out fliers for the Feline Frenzy which will be held on February 24, 2008 at St. Paul UCC in Columbia, Illinois. Sue reviewed the cost, the schedule of events and the feline contests that will be held in conjunction with the event. Sue stressed the importance of all cats needing to be in a carrier.

·        Robbie Davenport mentioned that St. Johns United Church of Christ in Valmeyer would like to have an adoption event in either April or May. After some discussion it was decided to look at April 13th or April 20th for this event. Starting time would probably close to 4PM. If possible we would like to have the adoption event coincide with another event in Valmeyer.

·        Bev Hirstein mentioned that she would like to see the minutes from our general meeting in the local papers.

·        Alice Imhoff stated she had corn bags for sale.

·        A work day is scheduled for Janaury 13 at 1PM. We will be performing a through cleaning of the shelter so everyone is asked to help clean up. Please bring along a bucket, rubber gloves, scrub brush and boots.
