Named
after
a
Harry
Potter
character
(and
pronounced
her-my-oh-knee),
our
Hermione
is
just
recovering
from
having
a
litter
of
12
puppies
on
October
26th.
Hermione
was
rescued
by
HSMC
from
the
Monroe
County
pound
just
a
few
days
before
delivering
her
puppies.
She
is
perhaps
5
years
old
and
appears
to
a
purebred
black
lab.
Hermione
is
beautiful
both
inside
and
out.
Being
placed
in
the
totally
unfamiliar
environment
of
her
foster
home
she
has
shown
only
trust
and
patience
with
strangers
handling
her
puppies.
She
wags
her
tail
constantly
as
if
saying
‘thank
you’
whenever
her
puppies
are
moved
about
and
cared
for.
Hermione
has
the
best
disposition
one
could
ever
want
in
a
companion
dog.
Hermione
still
has
a
difficult
road
ahead
as
she
still
needs
to
undergo
heartworm
treatment.
Her
previous
owners
did
not
spay
her
(she
has
had
multiple
litters
of
puppies
in
the
past)
or
prevent
her
from
roaming,
nor
did
they
make
sure
she
was
given
heartworm
preventative.
So,
sadly,
she
will
need
to
have
the
expensive
and
potentially
life-threatening
heartworm
treatment.
While
we
expect
her
to
make
a
full
recovery
it
is
a
shame
that
she
has
to
go
through
this
long
and
difficult
treatment.
HSMC
is
asking
for
your
help
in
providing
this
heartworm
treatment
for
Hermione.
She
is
in
our
PIN
program
(Pets
in
Need)
which
allows
people
to
donate
for
needed
medical
care.
The
cost
of
Heartworm
treatment
is
expensive
and
based
on
a
dog’s
weight;
Hermione’s
treatment
will
be
around
$350.00.
Once
her
treatment
is
complete,
in
early
February,
Hermione
will
be
looking
for
a
home
of
her
own!
She
is
housebroken
and
has
no
‘vices’
that
we
have
seen.
As
her
foster
mom
I
have
been
with
her
almost
constantly
for
the
past
several
weeks.
Patience,
love,
trust,
wisdom
and
total
dedication
are
words
that
come
to
mind
when
wanting
to
describe
her.
The
epitome
of
a
loyal
companion!
