HSMC Mission Statement
The Mission of the Humane Society of Monroe County is to make a difference in the lives of animals. We are a charitable organization promoting responsible pet ownership. The HSMC is dedicated to creating a world where our relationships with animals is guided by compassion. Our goal is to help prevent animal cruelty and place abandoned, adoptable, healthy pets in loving new homes. We cherish our animal companions for their unconditional affection and acceptance. We seek a truly humane society in which animals are respected for their intrinsic value, and where the human-animal bond is strengthened.
To help those animals lacking the love and care of a good home, volunteers with the HSMC ask for your assistance in promoting the humane care of all abandoned and stray animals in our community. Founded in 2002, the HSMC is a non-profit 501c3 charitable organization supported entirely by donations.
Our lucky animals receive appropriate medical care, are featured on the HSMC website ‘adoption list’ and are taken to several adoption events every month in an attempt to find permanent, loving homes.
Membership Information: As a member you will be notified of events sponsored by the HSMC. At any time, you may contact the HSMC for advice and information on pet care and pet selection. Membership dues are used primarily to fund HSMC programs that have a direct impact on the lives of animals.
Foster Programs: Adoptable cats and dogs are rescued from the Monroe County Animal Control and placed in foster homes, as space is available in a foster home. Foster homes are always needed for HSMC animals. If you are interested in learning more about becoming a foster home, please visit our foster information page or call.
