ADOPTION PENDING

Let's go back to August 2011. The shelter was getting calls on an injured dog, that was traveling the Bluff Rd from up towards Columbia to down by Maeystown. He had some kind of injury to his rear leg, skinny and VERY scared. He was  named "Phantom"  He would walk to ditches and if anyone got close, would move into the corn fields and disappear, only to be seen several hours later or the next day. He knew the people at Rock City saved their lunches for him, so he made regular stops there for his meals. We got numerous calls and animal control would go down and try to catch him, as soon as he see the lead rope, he'd be off.  So a plan was set to trap him. The trap was set, but then Phantom decided to go up to one of the woman at Rock City and she caught him. The chase was over, the next step of his journey, just beginning. He was taken to our shelter, where he proved to be a perfect gentleman. He was examined and it was decided he'd been hit and probably drug by a vehicle. His pelvis bones had major broken bones but they'd all healed.  He had lost his tail and has a nasty scar on his rear leg, but it had healed. This poor guy is a miracle, that he survived the hot summer and his broken body healed on it's own. He will always have a limp from his rear leg, but it doesn't bother him one bit. We let him build up his weight. Out on his own he was very wary of people, but since in our care, he's become the most loveable and trusting dog. He did have heartworms and is now on his final stages of treatment. Phantom's name no longer fit him, since he's more a white shadow to his foster mom and he loves everyone, including the dogs and cat in the house. He has been renamed Dallas, since his heart is as big as Texas.  How this dog can trust again, totally shows you the power of a dogs love. He will be looking for his forever home in the next few weeks and oh, don't let it bother you that he has no tail. When he's happy, his whole rear end area, goes wildly from side to side and he will flop over on his back for his favorite belly rub. He's an amazing guy and we would all love to hear how he got to this point and why NO one looked for this incredible guy. We will keep you posted on when he's been cleared and will make his entrance at an adoption. Dallas is what looks to be a Shephard/Lab mix and weighs in at about 55 pounds and approximately  2 years old.

Dallas will be ready for adoption once he has concluded his Heartworm treatments.

Dallas is one of our PIN pets ("Pet in Need"). He hopes you will consider making a donation to our PIN program to help with the cost of his heartworm treatment.

For more information on Dallas, please call  618-282-7387.

Dallas is up to date with routine shots, micro-chipped and altered.
