PET OF THE MONTH FOR JANUARY 2012

Piper
Terrier Mix

Size: Large
Age: Adult
Sex:  Female

Meet Piper. Piper is an amazing girl. She is a 3 year old Terrier with an amazing heart. Piper had been in the shelter for months and months without the opportunity to stretch her legs and really run. She was slowly going crazy. Piper went to visit in a foster home on Sept 30th and was able to run and run and run and play with other dogs for the first time in ages. She is having a blast in the foster home and showing what a wonderful personality she has. She actually smiles when she is outside playing. Piper plays very well with other dogs. She loves to rough-house and body slam the other dogs...playing with Piper is not for sissy-dogs. She loves to run along side another dog, both of them carrying a long rope toy...so much fun to watch. She loves to retrieve also and is great about bringing the toy/ball back for another round. Piper would be fine too as an only dog. She just adores people and wants to be right by your side.
Piper behaves very well in her crate. She is patient and quiet and sleeps all night in her crate on a nice comfy bed. She would be fine in the house uncrated, I am sure, in a very short time, as soon as she is acclimated to the home. Currently, with supervision, she checks out the house and finds a place to settle in and watches what's going on.
Piper’s ideal home would have a fenced yard for playtime so she can run, or to live with a runner. If she is adopted to a home with other dogs they should be larger sized dogs. Piper is a very strong dog who will walk well with an Easy-Walk harness. A home with children would be ok for Piper as long as the children are older and strong enough to handle her.
Piper is a very bright dog who will do best if she is well trained and know what you expect of her. She is awesome with her eye contact and watching a person's face to see what they want from her and to interact. Piper's adopter will receive a certificate for a free obedience class with Judy Luther of Dog Stars Training in St Louis, compliments of her foster family. Judy is a Victoria Stillwell endorsed trainer, using only positive training methods. Check out her website at www.dogstars.biz
Piper is smart, beautiful and so full of life & love! Piper is microchipped, spayed and up to date on all her shots...ready for her new home! If you would like to meet Piper, please call HSMC today at 618-282-PETS (7387). The foster family will return your call and set up a meeting.
