HERE’S WHAT WE CURRENTLY HAVE TO OFFER - These are the areas where we need help; please indicate any and all that are you interested in. Do you have an idea that isn’t listed here?  We’d love to hear about it!

Public Liaison

Public Relations liaison – Very important! Communicate upcoming events to local newspapers to ensure we get great public exposure.

Animal Handling

Animal care (scooping/washing litter pans, cleaning crates/kennels, feeding). We have an established protocol that must be followed.

Animal socialization (playtime, brushing, walking, or just sit quietly and pet!) Socialization is so very important for shelter animals.

“Meow Town” – do a shift of quick cleaning for our cats residing at Waterloo Feed & Pet Supply.  You can help make it a ‘pet and purr’ session!

Fostering (short term and long term – this will always be an integral part of our organization)

Quarantine homes and/or heartworm treatment homes (can be one week to two months long.)

Adoption Days (help with the animals on-site at adoption events, greet visitors)

Adoption Days (help with the animals on-site at adoption events, greet visitors)

Channel 5 “Sammy’s Stars” pet for adoption – do a shift for our spot on Tuesdays at 6:25am sharp. The animal you transport will be on camera; its profile is read by the reporter.

“Operation Doggie Drop” – This includes cats too! Transporting animals to adoption events, foster homes, vet appointments, etc. We endorse using crates and restraints for safety.

Adoptions

Home visit team – visit homes that have applied for adoptions and report back, using our guidelines

Adoption Processing (experienced volunteers only; check references, interview applicants, home visits)

Follow up on spay/neuter of adopted animals (although many are already done prior to adoption)

Adoption follow up – call to see how things are going and report back. We will give you questions to ask.

Adoption event signs – hang them up around town and take them down. (2x month)

General shelter duties

Shelter upkeep (sweeping, mopping, pick up.)

Laundry (what fun!  The animals will appreciate the clean blankets and towels!)

Shelter shopping (go on shopping trips for shelter supplies!)

Answering phone to take accurate messages

Fundraising

Fundraising events (Most events take place on weekends.)

Distributing flyers as needed for fundraising events, etc.
